15 14 CONSTITUTION Of the National British Jormed (Federated to Women’s Temperance Assoctation (Incorporated), at Newcastle-on-Tyne, the World’s Woman’s MOTTO—“ For God and Home April 21st, 1876. Christian and Every Temperance VI.—LOCAL AFFILIATED SOCIETIES. Any woman’s Society adopting a pledge of Total Abstience and endorsing this Constitution may become united with this Association by the anaual payment to the General Fund of 5s. for every so or fewer members, Union:) VII.—REPRESENTATION. Land.” PREAMBLE. In the spirit of CHRistT, and in the love of Gop and of humanity, we women of this nation, conscious of the great evils and appalled by the dangers of Intemperance, band ourselves together for the promotion of Total Abstinence, and the entire extinction of the Liquor Traffic. That we may successfully prosecute these objects, we adopt the following Constitution :— Every affiliated Local Society consisting of 50 or fewer members is entitled to send one Delegate to the Annual Council, and an additional Delegate for each additional 100 or fewer members. Delegates must be members of the British Women’s Temperance Association. No Delegates shall have more than one vote. VIII.—OFFICERS. The Officers shall be a President, an Acting Vice-President (to be nominated by the President and elected by the Council), a Corres- ponding Secretary, a Recording Secretary, an Assistant Recording Secretary, and a Treasurer, I.—NAME. This Association shall be called ‘The National Temperance Association (Incorporated); federated Woman’s Christian Temperance Union.” British Women’s to the World’s II.— OBJECTS. ‘Associated for Progress, we bind ourselves that others may be free,” and the object of this Association is to form a union or federation of the Women’s Temperance Societies existing in various districts within the United Kingdom, and to promote the formation of others, in the belief that by combined effort, and united forces and funds, much greater work can, with the blessing of Gon, be effected for the extension of the cause of Temperance, the control and ultimate suppression of the Liquor Traffic, and the moral and religious elevation of the people. IlI.—PLEDGE. *“*T promise by Gon’s help to abstain from all Intoxicating Drinks, and to try to induce others to do the same.” IV.—BADGE. A Bow of White Ribbon shall be the badge of the Association. i V.—MEMBERS. Any woman may become an individual member of this Association who signs, or has already signed, a pledge of Total Abstinence, and subscribes to its funds. Any man may become an Associate on the same conditions, but he may not vote or take office. IX.—NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. The National Executive Committee shall consist of the President Acting Vice-President, Secretaries, Treasurer, Hon. Gen. X.—ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING. The Annual Council Meeting shall consist of the General Officers, the National Executive Committee, and Delegates from the various affiliated Societies, National Superintendents of Departments, and the President’s Private Secretary. This Annual Council shall appoint the Officers for the ensuing year. It shall also appoint Committees to carry out any special work that may be decided on, and transact any other business that may come within its province, including changes in the Constitution and Bye-laws. XJ.—VOTING. Section i.—The General Officers shall be nominated and elected by ballot on the morning of the last day of the Annual Meeting. The Honorary General Secretary of the Y’s shall be nominated by ballot by the Representative Y Committee, and shall be elected by the Annual Council. |
