Two well-attended and inspiriting conferences have been held, when
the leading questions of the day have been discussed. The first, a picnic

The chief work of the year has been to stimulate, by means of
circulars and literature, the Lancashire Branches in opposing the
Licensing Bills which have been before Parliament; and in protesting
against the present Government Licensing Bill.
The L.C.U. sent out a circular in March with regard to Coroners’
inquests being held, where possible, in places other than public-houses.
Within the last month a paid organizer has been sent out to
strengthen weak districts, and, where possible, to form new Branches.
More Branches affiliate each year as they realize the helping
the Union is able to give, and that in co-operation lies strength.
