Miss Dolton moved, Mrs. Judson seconded, and it was carried :—
“That this meeting of the National Executive of the B.W.T.A. has
learned with deep regret the opinion expressed to the representa-
tives of the Licensed Victuallers National Defence League by the
Prime Minister ve the action of the Licensing Justices in the matter
of the reduction of licenses, as they feel that this places the interests
of a private trade before the public welfare.”

In the April meeting a circular letter was read from the Central
Temperance Legislation Board asking for the appointment of three
representatives to a conference on the Bill for providing compensation
for publicans.
The following resolution was moved by Miss Phillips, seconded by
Mrs. Pearsall Smith, and amended by Mrs. Boden, seconded by Miss
Bertha Mason, and unanimously carried :—
“That, in view of the opinion expressed by the Prime Minister to the
representatives of ‘the Trade’ ve the action of Licensing Magis-
trates in the matter of the reduction of licenses, and also in view of

Miss Lile appealed for contributions towards a farewell gift of some
little personal comforts for them on their journey.
After a warm expression of appreciation and sympathy it was decided

SPEAKERS
AT
THE
ANNUAL
PuBLIC
MEETING.
In the April meeting Miss Wyburn asked why no Nonconformist
speakers appeared on the programme for the public meeting at Queen’s
Hall on May 26th, and stated her objection to having them excluded.
