Sanders and Dr. Henry, offered to assume that post. of America, spoke at the meeting, and in the evening addresses were delivered by Mrs. Reaney and Dr. Harry Guiness. On December 11th was held the Bi-Annual Tea and Public Meeting presided over—in the much regretted absence of our Presi- dent—by Mrs. Pearsall Smith, and addressed by Mrs. Ormiston Chant and Mr. Wakeley, of U.K.B.H.U. Encouraging reports have been received from the Branch Secre- taries, and also a very satisfactory report from the Hon. Superintendent A devotional day was arranged in November (at Poole), the Rev. Richard Westrope presiding. Earnest efforts are being made to arouse interest in some of the scattered villages, with the hope of eventually forming branches. Eight branches are affiliated to the Union. , Poole and Parkstone have each a Y Branch, and the public meeting conducted by them in February was yery interesting. of the East London Women’s Inebriate Home. FLORENCE R. ATKINSON, Eons CamsBs AND Hunts Cor sce: UNION. The Union has held three business meetings at Wisbeach, St. Ives and Cambridge. Afternoon and evening meetings were held after the St. Ives and Cambridge meetings, and an afternoon meeting at Wisbeach. All were well attended. At the Annual Business Meeting on March 3rd, the officers were all re-elected. Mrs. Ransford was chosen as delegate to the N.E. Council. Miss Porritt has started four new Branches. The Branches now number 19. A. C. W. TILLYARD, Hon. Sec. Hants AND ISLE oF WicHT CouNTy UNION. Our work this year has been decidedly encouraging. There has been a full representation of delegates at nearly every Quarterly Council Meeting, and the reports of special work done by the Royal Naval Branches at Basingstoke, Southampton, Portsmouth and Win- chester, have been very successful. South Hayling reports good work done among the villagers, also starting a Y Branch. The other Y Branches in the county show a large increase of membership. Our Isle of Wight Branches are looking up, and are affiliating to the Union. The Council Meeting held in July next will meet at Cowes, and we trust will be the means of strengthening and increasing the usefulness of the Isle of Wight Branches in the Temperance work. ELLEN C. WHITING, Hon. Secretary. DORSETSHIRE UNION. The Quarterly Council meetings have been well attended delegates from most Branches. They were held respectively by in Dorchester, for Wareham, and election of officers in Poole. Parkstone, and the annual meeting (Miss) SELBY, Hon. NortincHam County Sec. UNION. The work of this Union is steadily progressing. During the year two new Branches have been affiliated, making a total of 14. z ty B.W.T.A. stall at the Band of Hope Union bazaar realized 7 heaOSe One Branch of special work has been the care of the women on the ‘Black List,” which in two cases has proved successful. Brewster Sessions work has been kept up with good results. M. Button, Hon. East ANGLIAN Sec. UNION. The membership of the East Anglian Union has continued to increase. ‘The branches maintain their interest, and, with the exception of two, send in good reports of work. The programme for the past year included two conferences and a sale of work ; eight special meetings on the Social Purity question addressed by Mrs. White Bamford; public and drawing-room meetings ; visitation of mothers’ meetings; cottage meetings ; work at Brewster Sessions ; Temperance work among factory girls and in work- houses; and meetings on behalf of Duxhurst; also meetings in villages, when Temperance literature has been distributed. 242 pledges have been taken and two new branches formed.
