amount—the want of which will compel us to abandon a work that,
though full of discourayements, has been so manifestly blessed of God.
Will some of our friends, who perhaps shrink from the unpleasantness of
active rescue work, help those who, amid depressing and heart-aching
experiences, are trying to love the unlovely, pointing them to the common
‘‘Inasmuch”?

The Retreat, which is in connection with the Manchester and Salford
Women’s
standing
Christian

Temperance

The Committee had the option of placing it under the new Act as a
Reformatory, but preferred continuing to conduct it as a Retreat.

receive 55 patients of two classes: the better educated, who employ
themselves in light household duties and needlework ; and working
women.
